Entrance Exam for Online MBA: A Brief Overview

When we talk about the Online MBA Course, we generally do not discuss the exams one needs to crack to get enrolled in an online MBA program. Some of the colleges require various MBA entrance exam scores and a certain score to take admissions, while some of them only require a graduation passing certificate in any stream with 50% marks ( 45% marks for reserved categories ). Here I am listing down some of the top MBA exams one can give to take admission in an Online MBA course:

CAT (Common Admission Test)

A common admission test is necessary and an important exam to get into the most prestigious colleges of Management like the various IIMs, and many more top colleges also ask for the CAT score. It is a standard computer-based test for getting into the top business schools of India for their Online MBA in HR Management, Finance, etc.

This exam has three sections: DILR (Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning), QA (Quantitative Ability), and VARC (Verbal Ability & Reading Comprehension).

It is seen as one of the challenging exams that requires a person to have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

CMAT (Common Management Admission Test)

It is the national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It requires eligibility of 50% in graduation (45%  for reserved candidates) to appear in the CMAT exam. It is a computer-based test to get into any of the Online MBA courses. It is a three-hour exam evaluating a candidate on Logical Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Techniques, DI, and Language Comprehension.

MAT (Management Aptitude Test)

The Management Aptitude Test is a standard test taken by candidates to enroll in the top business schools. The Ministry of Education approved MAT exams in 2003 to enroll students in various programs in MBA in HR, IT, Operations Management, and several new specializations. It has 5 sections: Language Comprehension, Intelligence & Critical Reasoning, Data Analysis, Mathematical Skills, and Economic and Business Environment. A MAT exam can be taken as a paper-based test, a computer-based test or both Paper based and Computer based test.

ATMA (AIMS Test for Management Admissions)

It is a national level examination conducted by Association of Indian Management Schools(AIMS). It is an online exam with an objective-type test. You don’t need to have prior knowledge of business and other related areas. It assesses a candidate on the skills of verbal, quantitative and analytical reasoning.

Now, let’s see some of the entrance exams conducted by a few particular universities to take admission in the Online MBA course, for any of the specializations like MBA in HR Management, Finance, Information Technology, etc.

XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test)

Xat is an online computer based test focusing on English Grammar, Logical reasoning and reading comprehension. It is a mix of reading and reasoning skill exams. It consists of sections like Decision Making, Verbal Ability, DI, GK and quantitative ability. A 3-hr test consisting 100-102 questions.

NMAT (Narsee Monjee Aptitude Test)

It is a 2-hour test based on three sections: Logical Reasoning, Language Skills, and Quantitative Skills. Each section contains 36 questions and different time limits. Like the LR has 40 mins, QS is of 52 mins, and LS is of 28 mins. Questions are multiple-choice and objective in type. Candidates are free to choose the section to start from at the beginning of the exam. It is conducted by Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies. You can take this exam as a gateway to be admitted to an MBA in HR Management, Finance, Fintech, etc.

KMAT (Karnataka Management Aptitude Test)

It is a 2-hour online exam organized by the KPPGCA (Karnataka Private Post Graduate Colleges Association). It assesses the students on the three sections, Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Ability, & Verbal Ability, and Reading Comprehension.

TANCET (Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test)

It is a 2-hour test conducted by Anna University to get into the various specializations like MBA in HR, Marketing, etc. Consists of multiple choice questions and a maximum marks as 100. It is an offline OMR-based test having 5 sections viz; Quantitative Ability, Data Sufficiency, Reading Comprehension, English Usage and Business Situations.

SNAP (Symbiosis National Aptitude Test)

SNAP is a computer-based test conducted by Symbiosis International (Deemed) University to get admission into the online MBA course. It consists of 60 questions, and 1 hour is given to complete this exam. It has 3 sections, viz, Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, and Data Sufficiency, having 20 questions—15 questions in General English and 25 questions in Analytical & Logical Reasoning. There is no sectional time limit to complete the particular sections.

We draw a conclusion that although there are some common tests conducted at a national level to get into the online MBA course, which require a particular score to get enrolled. While some of the Universities have their own Entrance tests to get into their courses on  MBA in HR Management, Marketing, Finance, Fintech, etc.
